So, positive probe on solenoid...and where the neg probe? Some ground or does it need to go somewhere specific?

Idk what to make of it, but one posted that his bolted in starter was not grounding. Myself, I once found a bolted in alternator not grounding. No BS, I couldn't believe it. Waz an old dozer with a newer Delco one wire alt. on it. Waz buzy (doing what you do with a bulldozer), so I just added a ground wire to it.

Thanks D....electrics for some reason is and never was my thing (wait, that is linguisticly speaking not correct, but you'll know what I mean) , although I very much like testing procedures using my DVOM...one day I will find time to get it all up to scratch again what I once knew regarding electric circuits....

My California smog license expired in 1981, about the time, 34 years ago I moved "off grid", with solar and a micro hydro unit (I made), for power. You just don't do that without a pretty good grasp of what those stinking, sneaky, invisible little electrons are up to!
It's actually allot easier that it seems at first. Equates to plumbing in an uncanny number of ways. Voltage is like pressure. Amperage is like the volume of flow. Wattage is the actual end result, the power or work done= the amount of water that moved.
Small pipe, high pressure, "X" amount of water in the bucket.
Big pipe, low pressure, (same) "X" amount of water.

Small wire, High voltage, "X" amount work done
Big wire, low voltage, (same) "x" amount of work done.
Even "water hammer", which happens if you close a big valve too fast, (can break pipes way far away), has comparison. The condenser in a points dizy takes that spike when the points open to lessen arcing at the points.
