xj slips in 4 low not in 4 hi or 2

Default xj slips in 4 low not in 4 hi or 2

i was checking out a 2000 xj the other day and when i tried out 4 low it would slip at first the other settings worked fine. does anyone know if this is some easy fix or should i just pass on the jeep all together?

Two things. When using 4lo your should be in 1st gear, were you. You shouldn't go more than 10 mph. You shouldn't be on dry pavement.

i was on dirt but i had it in drive not first

Try it in first gear and stay below 10 mph

You can go faster than 10mph. Heck you can probably do 30+, but I'd say a reasonable limit of 25. Also you don't need to be in 1st.

Low range tops out around 65mph...

I never heard of that before. Yeah I've never kept mine under 10mph I normally run around 20-30mph and never kept it in first. I have never had a problem.

x2 that could mean a million things. Does it fall out of gear or what? It normally takes a second or two for it to totally engage.

Nope. Rolling max of 3 MPH. It physically can't engage unless it has a slight amount of movement.
