Default XJ overheating

Driving in the snow got home and suddenly rig overheated, coolant began to boil... Help!! Any ideas...

how deep was the snow? if it blocked up the rad, no air flow. this happens with a lot of cars that sit lower. driving in deep snow will pack in the rad and electric fan and cause it to over heat.

yeah if there looks like there is nothing wrong in the engine and you were in snow then thats mos likley what happened.

no, nothing leaking. I just got it running not too long ago. New fuel pump, and complete exhaust system. (stock system) It was running fine but I was rolling about 6in of snow.

I noticed the resevoir cap is leaking a small amount of coolant. Do you think that may have something to do with it??

is your belt still intact? if so you prob have a bad waterpump...

if your coolant is low the pump cant pump it so the radiator cant cool it. amazingly enough it still expands enough to boil over. Had that problem last year with the leaky rad. was a slow leak but when it got low it would happen.

Resevior cap should not be loose enough for the system to release pressure. Water boils at a higher temp when under pressure, thus you need to maintain a closed system.

cap might be cracked, minebefore a switched to open system would blast off and nail the hood when it went. always carried an spare.
