Default XJ over cooled, can it make it increase gasoline consuption?

hi here, I'm located in Costa Rica, and being having issues with hi temps, in the cockpit of my 2001 XJ, so I did some things to insulate the heat coming from the engine bay, and exhaust pipe, and finally imported the hood that shows in the blue Jeep from the upper banner, ( predator hood if I remember well ).

But after installation I started to feel that my Jeep got thirstier for fuel, making just 242 miles on city drive, checked sparks, air filter, etc. And everything looks OK.

So my question here,

Is it possible that having a cooler engine bay would increase the fuel consumption?

Thanks.

Gas mileage can be tricky. Be sure that you are doing the math when calculating gas mileage. Trying to extrapolate your mileage by the amount of miles per tank is not particularly accurate.

Miles driven divided by gallons consumed. Get at LEAST three samples before coming to any conclusions. One sample doesn't tell you much.

BTW, what you did should have no effect on your fuel mileage. The engine itself is running at the same temperature.

A cooler engine bay will not affect gas mileage. Cooler engine temps however can. The sensors will tell the computer that the engine is not reaching full operating temp and will use more fuel to attempt to bring the engine temps back up.

A "warm-up" cycle is counted when coolant temp reaches 160......doesn't sound like the OP has a over-cool problem.

What temp is the engine running at? Could be a coincidence that perhaps the thermostat is now stuck open..
