Default XJ factory alarm

I have a 1991 XJ. I have been driving it for a while now and no problems. The other day I went to drive it and I put the key in the door lock as I have done many times before. When I unlocked the door the factory alarm went off, horn honking and lights flashing. This has never happened before.

I can't get it to shut off. I tried locking and unlocking the door, no help, I tried to start it and it will start and just die. I tried disconnecting the battery and let it sit for a while and still when I hook it back up the alarm is going.

I don't have a key fob, just the door key. I really don't need the alarm but I find no way to shut it off or get rid of it for good.

Anybody know what to do to either just shut it off or eliminate it altogether?

Have you tried locking and unlocking the rear hatch? I believe only the driver door and rear hatch will disarm the alarm.

I don't have an alarm, but do you have this module under the dash?

My 98 may be different but there is a button on the drivers side kick panel on the left. I depress that button and start it at the same time and it shuts the alarm off. If yours has one there should be a small hole that the button would stick through. Mine actually got pushed through and was behind the kick panel.

I also keep the jeep in valet mode all of the time. When it wasn't I would have issues like you just did. In valet mode, no problems.
