xj exhuast heat shield
Today I was driving around and i heard this rattle. When I got home My dad and I checked it out and the heat shield for my exhaust had rusted off and it had caused the rattling sound. I took it out but I'm wandering is this something that I have to worry about, should i just forget it or should I try and replace it? Any help would be great.

I have always just removed the shields without ever reattaching them unless it's the one befween the exhaust system and the Cab floor...then you feet could get a bit uncomfortable.

this same thing just happened to me. it was the heat shield on the muffler that came off mine. I took it out and it hasn't melted anything yet. I did a full day of serious wheeling in the heat with it off, and nothing bad happened. when I was getting something out of my back seat though I noticed that everything under there was really freaking hot though. I tried to move my chains and the plastic bag that they are in was basically liquid to the touch.
I doubt there's any way to reattach it properly without welding...maybe a lot of tight exhaust wrap? I would like to know how to do this too

its the one over the muffler. I was at school and my dad decided to be nice and ordered me a new one that should be in today.

i replaced the stock exhaust with a magnaflow and the heat shield had rusted a bit and started to fall off. so i got some self tapping screws with bigger washers than the rust out around the bolts and screwed it back on.

i run no head shields and it was ok, although the plastic gas tank cover was melted in the back due to not using the right hanger
