Default XJ engine swap

I have an inline 6 4.0L High output in my Cherokee at the moment. I am wanting to put a crazy big engine in there but I am not sure what to look for. I have looked at a couple V8 engines but I am not sure. I just want her to roar when I put my foot down and have the power to back it up. Want to be pushing well over 350 hp. Can anybody give me some advice. Thank you.

I have a 4.3L in mine and I can tell you it is a lot of work. You will need to put the Chevy tranny in too. Mine is a 4L60E. I don't think the tunnel is big enough for a 4L80. One of the biggest problems though is that the XJ is not wide enough between the frame for it to breath with a small block. I've been fighting cooling problems and I have a Griffin radiator. I think I have it now though. But honestly, 500 hp might be a little much for the unibody.

Default well.......

I've thought alot about this.....You could always go with a 300I6 ford, bore it over, there is a little aftermarket support for it, it would definitely be unique! You could put a dodge smallblock in it, like 318, that would be unique.......

You could go chevy if you wanna be like everyone else, its cheap and easy to find, I think its a cop out and there is much better stuff for a 5.0 ford and its a very light and there is a TON of aftermarket stuff to go any way you want. I would couple this with a ford 5speed out of an old mustang, or even better instead of a 5.0 do a 289, same block as the 5.0 ford just a tighter crank so you can really rev that one up super fast. I've seen a couple of CJ's with a 289 in them that were BAD ***.

I'm eventually gonna go big block in mine but thats way down the road. whatever anyone tells you, there is one rule as a gearhead. THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!

Whatever you do there isn't a kit, your gonna have to fab and work it all out yourself. I'd do a ford windsor engine, tons of aftermarket, the power is not at cheap as chevy but is definitely more reliable. Do a windsor family engine, they go from 260, 289, 302 (5.0), and 351. and most of the blocks and parts are swapable (except for the 351).

Chevy Sucks...........
