Xj engine noise
Hi, I have a 2000 XJ with a 4 litre engine. When I put the car in gear, I can hear ticking noise like a noisy lifter. If I rev the engine in neutral, there is no ticking noise. Any ideas? One reader suggested loose bolts between the engine and transmission.

Mine does that. A very subtle tick. I have heard MANY 4.0 make the same noise from low mileage to high mileage. I wouldn't be to concerned.

Check the bolts on the flex plate to see if any are loose. Also make sure that the flex plate isn't cracked.
