i got a 98 cherokee with the 4.0 .. and when i start my vehicle and go down the road about 100 feet the jeep sputters/bogs down then kicks out of it within seconds and runs fine after, its just starting to happen every start of the vehicle now it seems, I am under the impression it could be plugs,distributor, 02 sensor or CPS or possibly TPS ? any ideas? any similar stories and what fixed it? 130,000 miles and its an auto, was gonna order a 4.5 inch lift for it with 33s but holding off til I find out this information on what i should check/replace first!

 

I had the same symptoms and the o2 sensor was the culprit. You could try unplugging it and see if it behaves the same.

 

I had a very similar problem and it was the Air Temp sensor. They can get gummed up and they can stop working. Your computer may not throw a code if it is bad. I spent a ton of $$$ trying to figure it out. You can get a new one for around 20$
