Exclamation XJ Auto Tranny Problem Need Advice

I have a 93 xj with the 4.0l with an auto tranny the problem I am having is when I put it in drive it just starts out in 3rd and wont shift down or start out in a lower gear so i shift it manual and it works fine tranny is still strong. The 10amp fuse in the engine compartment blew so i changed it and it works for about five minutes then it blows again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check all your wiring from tranny up, as far as you can might be some exposed wire or frayed touching each other. And get it scaned with computer

Do you have the power comfort button? That could be doing something. Just an idea.

Power/Comfort button won't affect it this way.

But, up under the dash on the passenger side below the glovebox is the trans control unit. There is a fuse in the harness near by and it's wrapped in yellow tape. If the fuse is blown or the socket corroded, you will have the symptoms you describe.

Is it in the harness in the cab or in the harness in the engine compartment?

Passenger compartment , right in front of where the passsenger's knees would be. Poke your noggin up there.
