Trans Code P0705 related to loss of engine power?
--EDIT: Nevermind, I'm going to make this a topic since it's a little lengthy.--
Hey all, a couple weeks ago my '97 XJ Country threw a CEL code P0705, which is probably related to the NSS. I'm taking it to a transmission place this week to have it checked out but I wanted to run down the symptoms and see what you guys thought the issue was.
Symptoms include:
Increased knocking at idle and low speeds (especially when cold);
Occasional hard start at cold temperatures;
No reverse lights (common to the NSS, I've read);
Intermittent CEL (currently off, which makes me wary of taking it into a shop);
and what may be a loss of power...it's hard to describe. Basically, the get-up-and-go factor feels diminished. When I accelerate, the engine works harder than it used to in order to get the speed it needs. Shifting still seems fairly smooth but it's more of a chore to get it to 80mph than it used to be and I can't seem to get the engine past 2500rpms (though I've been hesitant to flat out gun it).
It doesn't stall. It doesn't die. It doesn't smoke. I'm still able to start it from Park. Sometimes I think the brake lights don't work but it's hard to tell for sure. About a month ago I accidentally ran it without oil for 9 miles (stupid, I know; I have a thread on it) and I'm concerned that the loss of power could be from that and, worse, could eventually kill my engine. It doesn't smoke and I don't think the transmission slips, it just has a harder time accelerating, which I'm hoping is just related to the Neutral Safety Switch either needing cleaned or replaced (it was adjusted back in January...to little avail).
Any tips or advice on the cause and cure of these symptoms would be greatly appreciated, either here or in PM.
Thanks for your time,
J

I am having a high idle issue. I replaced the TPS and IACV Sensors and still have idling at about 1800 rpms. Cleaned throttle body and checked for vacuum leaks. Sprayed some carb cleaner around manifold gskt and had some up and down on the rpms so I tightened a couple of bolts and that helped but still have high idle. Om out of ideas. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I got mine from Performance Radiator. Do a search on google for the name i think autopartswarehouse carries them. Very happy with mine, and a good price.

As for your other problems, get the code read at your local auto parts store. Even if the CEL light is not currently on, the code is stored in the memory. I'm leaning toward your TPS as causing your other issues, but I need the code you are throwing to make a better prediction.

found a '95 4x4 xj with the tow package and the guy says it has a d44 rear and d30 front from the factory. Was this an option? and if so what would the gearing be?
Im hoping to use this as a parts car for my 4x4 conversion
edit.. ok I just saw the pictures and it has an aftermarket universal tow hitch so I'm convinced it doesn't have the tow package (or a d44 but we'll see). I've requested the VIN and im going to see it today and ill have a build sheet soon. Assuming it has a d30 with 3.55s is a swap between a 95 and 98 going to be direct? is anything at all different? I'm expecting speed bumps and need help from you guys. This is my only vehicle so it's not like I can let it sit in the garage for a week while I find the extra parts I need to make it drive.

You actually do NOT want it to have the tow package since the gear ratio would be different than your rear and you'd have to swap both axles.
The swap is direct between these years. You'll have to take the front/rear driveshafts, TC, TC linkage, front axle, and crossmember (minimum) off the donor. You will also need to swap the output on the transmissions so yours will attach to the TC.
Good luck you're gonna need it.

I have an 8.25 so I'm hoping the d30 has 3.55s. I've heard all over the place I need to swap the entire transmission. Is that not the case?

if it's an auto, non-tow package, gearing *should* be the same.
The biggest problem is going to be the transmission tailshaft. You either need to swap the entire transmission, or get a professional automatic tranny specialist to swap just the tailshaft.
Honestly, unless your 98 2wd is REALLY nice, or you have a crapload of time to do the conversion, it would be much more cost effective to put a for sale sign on the window and drive the 95 4x4.

It could be you have a bad manifold gasket and it just needs to be replaced. Tightening it will only help so much. Also check the throttle body gasket for leaks. Is the butterfly closed all the way at idle?

Stuck in 4WD
I have a selec trac transfer case with full time four wheel drive in it. When i tried to get out of full time, you have to go through part time in order to get back to 2WD, but it keeps getting stuck in part time 4WD. Anyone know what to do, or what the problem is?
