I searched and read the various posts on what can make the defrost only work (this was after pulling my center console, center dash, and glove box).

Checked the canister behind the bumper passengar side and was puzzled because my cruise does work.

Then pulled the vacum line connection from the back of the control unit and no vacuum.

Finally found the vacuum lead about 2 inches from the firewall inside the motor area by the heat hoses and put some tape on it. Same leak someone else had posted in response to same question.

Great stuff so keep posting so I can do more research here before I start taking things apart

Was afraid I was going to have to pull the whole dash to check the vacuum motors.... now that would have been bad.
