I was looking for the code reader plug on my XJ and found this switch and button under the dash by the steering wheel. Does anyone know what it's for? I asked the original owner of the car and my boss who drove it for 6 years. No one has a clue.

My thought too. But I bought it from the previous owner who bought it new (314 miles on it) and no one knows. If it's a kill switch it's not for the motor. There's a button next to it too.

Remote start/alarm system? Could be an enable/disable switch for remote start and a programming button for key fobs.

You might be onto something. It's does have a light on the dash that does nothing. But the keys I have aren't original.

Have you tracked down the wires to see were they go?

Bingo. Start following wires and see where they lead. Then let us know.
