Let me tell you. Those things ain't coming off.
The 3M VHB stuff is no joke.
Be exactly where you want to be before you even touch the vehicle.
I mean brushing up ever so slightly against the vehicle and it will stick.
If you are not where you want it to be then you are literally going to have to start over from scratch.
Take off what tape is still on the molding and not the car. Clean it all up again. Etc.
I had my molding Line-X'ed and put them on using that stuff.
I think the Jeep will rust away to nothing before those come loose. LOL.
I need to remember that in case I ever need some. I watched a video of a guy that put a 2x4 along the trim piece and then propped another 2x4 against a wall to hold it in place overnight. It still didn't stick good, I think.

I have to be careful with that. I once responded to someone on Craigslist about a part, and I said something like "$6500 or best offer", and then I added a wink. THEN I suggested he make an offer.

Then he responded, "Sorry to waste your time!" and I never heard back from him, even though I emailed back and said I was joking.

Anyway, make an offer. I"m easy. I mostly want this stuff to go to a good home, instead of the scrap yard.

I'll have to get a shipping price. I sold my radio bezel the other day, and took a bath on it because I assumed, being very light, ti would be about 5 bucks to ship. Turns out that size really does matter. I got $20 for the part and paid $31.95 to ship it!

My bad!

how about 25$ and whatever the shipping cost? I’m trying to stay around 50$ so if it ends up being less than 25$ to ship, I’ll still send you 50$, if it’s more than 25$ to ship, I’ll send you 25+ shippings cost.

I am guessing that the video used the stuff that all auto parts stores stock.
Like this:

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Stuff is crap compared to the VHB.
There seems to be different types of VHB. With different part numbers. I wracked my brains out trying to figure out which is which. Came across a posting where somebody used the 5952. So I went with that.
The other problem is finding it in smaller amounts. Some sellers, like the one below at Amazon cut the tape off larger rolls and sell it. Read the reviews.

Amazon Amazon

I was doing all sorts of double sided tape things at the time so buying larger amounts, while expensive, was more more appropriate for me.

A normal roll I believe is 36'

Amazon Amazon

So you can see how pricey that stuff is. So just keep all that in mind.
I watched this video for the adhesive promoter.

And that was another thing they use part number 4298 in video. We sell what I posted earlier in the store. Best I can tell it is the same stuff.
Also forgot to mention that I cleaned everything with 3M 08984 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner.
That stuff is not cheap either but a little goes a long way and it does not evaporate quickly like some of the others do.
One of those let it work for a couple seconds before you actually start rubbing away things.

I have a '96 and the molding on the passenger side is missing but thanks to you I purchased the molding last fall and I'm ready to put it on now that it's warmer. Would you recommend this tape for the type of molding you see in this picture:

Do have a piece of that molding that has not been cleaned up yet?
Where I could see the old tape and gunk on the back?
Thinking I would use it but curious as to what it looks might have been on there from the factory.

Still has some residual plastic stuff on it. When I get a chance I'll take a picture and see how much clean-up folks recommend before I just slap some adhesive tape on there

Prep is always key. Don't want to lose them down the line.

You really don't realize how big those things are till you go to box them up. LOL.
Weight on the other hand. I think the box itself weighed more. MLOL.

Yeah, it was the size that got me on the radio bezel. I suspect the moldings will do similar due to the length. I'll get a quote tomorrow.

Being somebody who stalks Craigslist and Ebay shipping sucks.
You would be amazed at how many people on Craigslist I have dealt with around the country.
Betting at least 90% of them have been willing to work with me.
Most have PayPal so that makes making payment easy.
But they are willing to go through the trouble to box it up, get a quote, and ship.
Thing is what is a fantastic deal on Craigslist becomes not so much with the shipping sometimes.
And I am cheap bastard. LOL.
When I find something more local to me on Craigslist that I might want I calculate the amount of money it would cost me in gas to get there and back.
And the total is whatever I am looking at is going to cost me. Not just the asking price.
Hell a good deal is only a good deal sometimes if you don't have to drive clear across the state to get it. MLOL.

I used to own a '96 which I sold sometime ago. So being my first XJ, not my first Jeep though, I have a soft spot for the '96's.
One or two of the moldings were starting to come off so I just yanked them off and put them aside.
Gave them to the guy who bought the Jeep.
If I had know the trouble some people were going through and what the going rate seems to be to buy them I would have yanked them
all off and sold them on the side. LOL.

Remember to check your "Sent" folder. Those count against your total.

I just ripped off some more of the molding on the rear passenger door this last weekend. The Jeep got really muddy and the power washing loosened things up a bit. I'm thinking of changing course and stripping all of the existing factory plastic, etc and then doing a Line-X strip instead. I have never removed this stuff from an auto and was wondering what you would recommend for ripping or grinding this all off? I plan on priming before I Line X so if grinding is the easiest I just as soon do that.
