Wrangler guy with an XJ question
Thanks for having me on the site to pick the brains of the experts. I am thinking about trading a dodge truck of mine for a '98 XJ from my nephew. I am told by the seller that the computer went bad, he replaced it with a computer from a '96 XJ. He claims that everything works fine except that the rev limiter kicks in around 3000 rpm. Do you guys think that this cpu could be flashed to work in the '98? Are there any other unforeseen problems that could come up?
Thank you in advance for your help/replies.

I'm no expert but from what I read things changed after 97 so its possible that you just need a 98+ computer that should has the same rev lim as the gen of the Cherokee and should work
So I am looking at probably needing a new computer. It is a '98 with 99k miles, 4 inch Rough Country 2.2 lift, 33's. Seller is asking 3000.
If everything else checks out, would this be a good deal (trade vehicle is worth around 4k probably) or should I pass?
