Depending on the year, Rangers are a huge PITA compared to an XJ. In the Ranger the entire upper A arm has to be changed. The ball joint and A arm is all one piece.
In an XJ the ball joints are pressed into the 'C'. With little mechanical ability you can change all 4 ball joints in about 4 hours. All you need are the joints, a ball joint press, a 13mm box end wrench, a lug wrench, and a floor jack.
Usually you can rent a press from the parts store...

Good point.
First off, what all is done to your XJ? How wild do you intend to go? Makes a difference on which steering setup i'd suggest that you go with.

Yes, sounds like a dead battery.
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of budget are you working with for steering and getting this thing road worthy?

Just a stab but is English your second language?
I've not had any experience with a V8 tie rod so I really don't know but as far as I've heard it should work. Chances are that it's not much of an upgrade but if you don't have the cash to buy anything else then I suppose it will do. RuggedRidge sells a fairly inexpensive upgrade.
I still suggest getting the front end off the ground and checking things out before we go any farther.
