Default is it worth it?

been asking for 3 days straight and going crazy thinkin about it. i have come up with finding an 8.8 with 4.10 gears. regear the front, lock the back atleast(with aussies) maybe front too but keepin my 4" lift and 31s until i have money for a bigger lift and bigger tires? for it all a waste to just run 31 a/ts. its alot of money just for a smaller jeep. all inputs greatly considered.

What axle do you have now? 8.8 would be WAY overkill for 31s unless your are super hard on your rig.

I would rather over do it then re do it. It may also be easyer/cheeper to find a front axle with 4:10 gears stock already. Im running 31's alt's and have a 8.8 with 4:10 gears. I LOVE it.

well i hear its not recommended to lock a d35 and what front axle would i have to find for them to have 4.10 gears? so a 8.8 wont hurt and if i wanna run 33s later its already all done but thats why i want to know if its worth it or find a 8.8 with lsd for now?

No never spend any $ on a dana 35 other then diff oil and brakes. You can find a dana 30 with 4:10 gears out of an XJ stock. Also a TJ dana 30 will work. I have heard that its easy for some people to fine a XJ dana 30 with 4:10's and hard for others like me. I had to go over 300 miles to get mine and I had to rebuild it. Also you will have rear disks and thats always nice. Try using car-parts.com to find one near you. And if your looking for a locker and want a Lunch box locker you want an open diff so you can install one.

You said "straight swap too", have you read any thing about putting a 8.8 in a xj? Its not so much a straight swap. But yes a dana 30 out of a xj is a straight swap in. I think all years had a 4:10 option. But im not sure.

no no i understand the 8.8 needs some fab. but if i found both 4.10 axles would save me a bit of money. probably equal to a free locker for the front?

ya i was looking at those too, i hear those tires are good too. maybe kill 2 birds with 1 stone kinda thing. 2g will take a while though. and with the 8.25 did those come with 4.10s? and i thought an aussie for the 8.8 would be easier to get than the 8.25. but i would love to end up running 35s. but i hear to regear once and be done with it so i am looking for the next ratio to do after 4.10 is it 4.56? but is 4.56 way overkill with my current 31s.
