Default is this worth it?

here's 23mpg 50/50 - hwy./city on my buddy's crap tires and wheels

versus 18.5mpg 50/50 - hwy./city on my head-turning setup

i still have my stock wheels and tires, so for the sake of the mileage, is it worth turning my one-of-a-kind rig into a one-of-many????

How much you drive?

Can you afford the higher cost of gas?

Only you can decide..

well, i don't think it looks that bad with little tires, i'm just not sure if i built the jeep to look like thousand others. i drive about 250-300 miles a week and that MIGHT amount to 10-15 bucks difference. but also a ton of extra driveline wear. i'm torn. i'm also a gas mileage freak.

Heh... there's a lot of Cherokees out there (more than 3 million produced). I doubt you'll get to the point that yours doesn't resemble another... yet we all try. Go for whatever suits your needs rather than how it looks. My Heep is uuuugly but it gets me where I want to go. Nonetheless, you've got a nice lookin' rig there.

Did you figure in the bigger tire size when you calculated you gas mileage? The bigger tires turn less rotations per mile, so the tripometer will read lower per tank of gas.

thanks, i tried not to deviate too much from the stock classic all one color look. around here there's none like it. other XJ owners have offered me their lifted XJs with cash on top. that really makes me wanna keep the big tires.

and yeah, i figured for less rotation of bigger tires. my exclusive highway mpg is right around 21.7 with the big tires. with the little tires it's somewhere around 25. no kidding. drove 100 miles to see it.

but here's the deal, i drive 20 miles one way to work and it's all hills. and big tires give me about 18.3 mpg, the little tires only do 22.2 mpg.

whats the point of lifting your jeep to keep stock size tires?

i say if you want to have good gas mileage then trade in the jeep for a car thats made to get good gas mileage.

I'd almost have to say what's the point of lifting your Jeep if you don't wheel it A LOT?

I drove my 93 sport for 125k stock. It was my hauler and my DD. Thought about lifting it many times but I mainly used it to haul band gear back and forth playing 4 shows a month, and to go snowboarding and to haul materials back and forth from the house for various projects. Sure Jeeps look sweet lifted and beefed up, but IMO it ain't worth the money if you're not really gonna use it.

it's 1.5" spacers in the front, 2" shackles in the rear, trackbar, lower control arms, longer U-bolts for full leafs, stabilizer... i think that's all. and i did a whole bunch of performance upgrades. soon, i'll be getting the super 35 kit for the rear and 4.10 gears. that outta level out the gas mileage a bit more.
