Ive searched and read tons of threads but so far nothing I have tried has worked.

i have a 98 4.0 automatic cherokee with 190k on it. When i bought it the guy told me that sometimes it needs to be started in Neutral so i knew it was just a NSS and didnt worry about it. Cruise has never worked. Well the other day It wouldnt start in any gear so i had to start it by jumping the starter with a screwdriver to get home.

Whenever i try start it will not even try to start no crank no starter kicking in. the only way i can get it started is with the screwdriver on the starter. any more ideas i should try before taking it into a shop? I just bought an ignition switch hoping that may help but havent put it on yet.

What i have tried so far
confirmed reverse lights came on
rebuilt NSS even though reverse lights came on they still do
took starter in to have tested and it passed
tried jump starting it with a booster box and with 2nd car battery
jumped negative side of battery to clean ground on frame
tested every fuse on the passenger side and under hood.
put the abs relay in place of starter relay to test
checked all cables comming from battery.
tried bypassing the NSS at the connector connecter by the firewall

 

I would put that new ignition switch on.

 

just updating incase anyone else runs into something simular, it was the ignition actuator broke but enough was left to turn the switch over enough for the radio to come on
