help! 1999 cherokee classic, 4x4, automatic. Just replaced TPS and now it wont shift until 4000rpm. I can not shift it manually either. What could the problem be? where should I check first?

 

fluid is good. correct level. no burnt smell.

 

Could be the PCM. Or the tps you put in is junk.

 

TPS is good, checked voltages, everything checked out good. I will be checking the PCM then. Thanks!!

 

Lets back up a moment.

WHY did you replace the throttle position sensor in the first place?

If you did NOT have this symptom before you replaced the TPS, then the TPS is absolutely your primary suspect.

Where did you buy your TPS and what brand is it? Not uncommon to find crap engine management sensors. I buy this sensor directly from the Jeep dealership.

 

did you put the TPS in correct? the inside part can go in a little off and cause an issue.it says so on the directions that come with it I believe. Mine showed it.

 

This is exactly what happened. I went out and took it out and reinstalled and it runs great and shifts great again. Mine did not have any instructions however, not sure why. Thanks for the help guys!!
