hey guys..so the other day i was on my way to my grandpas to visit. it was about a 200 mile drive and went flawless the way there..so when my time came to leave i was heading down the highway just crusing at about 65 and all of the sudden my jeep started bouncing off the rev limiter..i pulled off to the shoulder and tried to see what the heck was going on. i lost all forward gears and reverse..the trans isnt leaking at all..the kickdown cable is adjusted correctly..the fluid level is correct..fluid color is what it needs to be..has a brand new filter and fluids not even 1000 miles old. the trans was new to my jeep and i installed it less then 500 miles ago...so basically i need to find out what the heck is going on with the trans. i heard that the tcu symptoms are being stuck in 3rd gear from a start and it was doing that for a little bit after i got to my grandpas. if the tcu is bad would it make the trans not even engage in any gear?? or could it be the shift soleniods? i called a local trans shop and they said it wouldnt be the solenoids if it wont engage in any gear...so after hearing that i am stumped..any suggestions would be great

It sounds like something broke internally. sad 2 say. Could almost be anything from the front pump gear to a shaft. I would say to drop the pan and see what is in there. Many times when something internal brakes some pieces may be in the pan but not all the time. I have taken apart many tansmissions that looked brand new inside and out only to find a shaft of a clutch drum had sheared. It is basically nothing but a defective part, nothing u could do. Its never a good sign to lose EVERYTHING in 1 moment.

Tell more about where u got the trans and anything that may have happened on the install. Usually a rebuilt trans will fail much earlier than not meaning if something is wrong u will find out very soon.

trans is from bc automotive and had 113k on it..everything tested fine and the install went flawless..when i droped the pan and did a new filter i looked at the magnets and they were pretty clean and saw no metal shavings in pan either..trans shifted fine for a few hundred miles and just pooped on me when i was leaving my trip..rite when i got to my grandpas the trans was getting stuck in 3rd gear so i had to manually shift it...but i talked to people and they said the tcu failure wouldnt cause forward and reverse gears to go out...every gear is like neutral no movement what so ever..

So its a JY trans ? OR did it come out of a running jeep. If it was a recent install and the converter was taken in and out a few times it could be the pump gears. Do u have any warrenty on it ?

Even with the TCU removed a working trans would get 1st in 1-2, 3rd in 3, 4th in D and R in R, but it wouldn't shift.

Yeah it is a jy trans..it was out of a running jeep tho.the 4brakes bolts are tight on converter..and transfercase is in gear also..like I said before the trans was starting to get in stuck in 3rd after I stoped so I would have to manually shift it..so I was hoping it was solenoids...and it is still under warranty but I can't find my Damn invoice...

Sounds like the trans got hot during thr drive im 95% sure its ur direct drive is gone. Ur direct drive drum transfers power to R 1 2 3 D. I bet if u pulled it out u could bounce the clutches.

JY transmissions are always a crap shoot, especially if it's out of something that hit a tree @ 100 mph. You did not list a year what is the vehicle like, is it a beater or could you justify having the transmission rebuilt. If you could swing a rebuild you almost guarantee you won't be a member of the "transmission of the month" club.

The JY shouldn have a copy if u can give them a date. if they have a computer system which I can't see why they wouldn't they can just look u up.
If u have another person ( put the jeep up on 4 good jackstands) u can have them inside the Jeep running through the gears as u check it out underneath. My wife actually has helped me from time to time but my 12 yr old daughter works much better.
Most internal trans breaks are usually silent unlike snapping a driveshaft that u will most probably hear.
Worst comes to worst u can take the unit out and bring it to a trans shop they will tear it apart for a fee ( usually $150 or so) u save alot of money just bringing in the unit yourself. Then they can tell u what is up and how much- then u can decide where to go with it.
Keep us up to date on the problem.
