Does it crank/start when you try this?

Forgive my ignorance, but, I don't know what you mean by "short the terminals". Tell me more.

On the bottom of the starter,Touch the ground and positive posts together with a rubber handle screwdriver. It should crank If the battery is good.

Expect some sparks when you do this!

Please don't offer any more bad advise, you're going to get somebody hurt.
The correct way is to bypass the ignition switch by jumping the switched terminal on the starter to the battery terminal on the starter. Not the battery hot lead to ground.

See the two large screw terminals on the starter solenoid? Short those two together with a screwdriver momentarily.
One terminal goes direct to battery +, the other to the starter motor. When you short them the starter should crank.
The third, smaller terminal is the "start" signal from the ignition switch. There should be 12 volts on on the wire connected there with the key set to 'start'. Unplug it to check to avoid accidents.

Six Months, you've got to be kidding!!!

Clean the battery terminals!!!

The clicking you're hearing is the starter relay. This magnetic relay shorts the two terminals you've been asked to short with a screwdriver. The voltage drops so low, because of the corroded battery terminals, it releases. Voltage rises, tries again. Click, click, click, as it tries to short the terminals.

Have someone turn the key, put your ear near the battery terminals, they'll sizzle.

Clean the battery terminals!!!
