around town I don't really notice it, although I feel like my jeep revs a little high... but today I was on the freeway and at almost 3k going 65! (speedo reading, not corrected for tire size yet) on the way back I counted the shifts and was at about 2100 doing the same speed. (still seems high, but is probably correct... I have 31's and 3.55s)
I haven't changed the tranny fluid, the guy I bought it from said it was just done... I know I can't go by that, but it looks bright red so I'm inclined to believe him, and since its an intermittent problem I'm wondering if it has something to do with a sensor, etc.
anyone else experience this?

i doubt its the knock down cable, mines doing the exact same thing, revving high, clunkier changes but most of all pretty much refusing 4th! this is usually due i have been told by my local Chrysler dealership mechanic that it is a filter within the automatic transmission that needs changing, i will try find you some more info on this topic however im pretty certain this may be your problem, my dads going to do it for me this weekend as its a little out of my depth, and i'll let you know how i get on! this is an intermittent problem however, described by the mechanic as being due to debris settling out of the filter. the oil maybe good, however if the filter has debris in it, this could explain the issue, i believe this is the critter that needs replacing

I'm betting you're right. I've done this on another car... kind of a pain to deal with the pan and gasket, but its straight forward. guess I'll put this on the agenda, couldn't hurt either way.
