I'm sorry, but I dont think the bird made it. Since it isn't making any noise now. Bird is dead, problem solved!

To the OP, check the belt, but also check the mechanism that keeps the belt tight, I had one that was stripped out. As the saying goes, the simplest solution to a problem is usually the correct one.

 

Been having the same screeching noise, only when the A/C compressor is engaged, worse when first turned on then gradually drops off, until I stop for traffic ~ process starts over. Just when i was about to tear into the compressor clutch, I got an extra noise - the standard fan (non-electric) was hitting the harmonic balancer pulley. Oh, well; time for a new fan clutch, so I buy one coming home from work. On the way home from the parts store, it threw the fan belt ... Not fun w/o power steering.

The harmonic balancer had separated! That's where the noise was coming from all along. It was weak but worked fine pulling the normal accessories. The A/C stressed it to the point the pulley was slipping on the hub and crying for mercy, but I didn't figure it out until it came apart yesterday.
