I have a 93 that I bought pretty much bare. I purchased a 96 for a parts mobile. The 96 harness has a different plug where it connects by the column. It looks like most of the wires are the same, with the exception that there are a few more wires on the engine harness side. I assume these are for the guages? Can I splice the ones that match together, or splice the plug from under the dash of the 96? I am trying to keep my non airbag steering wheel, so I don't want to swap the whole under dash harness
I would be careful a 96 is the start of the OBD2 system so they are different systems , 93 is the old system , you could be setting up something that will short out and may burn up .
Follow this link and get the 2 FSMs you need. Be prepared to spend a lot of time combing through the wiring diagrams to determine what can get spliced. I would not trust just the wire colors as they make have changed with the '96. '96 not only introduced air bags and OBD-II, but was a transition year. Early '96s had more in common with '95 and earlier. Later '96 had more in common with '97+.
