Default Wire question.

Dumb question guys. My fog light kit came with 18 (?) gauge wire or something equally pathetic. I am finishing up my own custom harness with 12 gauge and a relay. I need to split the wire to two for each of the lights. If the 18g wire handled the lights and it only needs a 15 amp fuse, is it safe to split the 12 into two 12's using a homemade fork (heavy duty and sealed of course)?

The wire powering the fork should be bigger than the others or else it may overheat and cause higher resistance. Not saying make it bigger but you could probably afford to shrink the wires after the fork. Are they sealed beam or can your attach your own wire to the terminals on the fogs? Also be sure the relay can handle 15 amps.

The relay is a 30/40 amp one from RadioShack. I figured the 12 to two 12's idea would be ok since previously the system was using no relay (just the switch), the 15 amp fuse, and one 18 (?) gauge wire being split into 2 of the same gauge wires.

Im sure it would be fine. The way i would it is if u had the wires needed but itll do fine. Unless you put in more lights on the same circuit then i would recommend it. As long as the wires stay cool your golden

Oh yeah no. More lights = bigger main wire. But the two I have is all I plan on. I just figured that if the smaller wire handled it, 12 should be fine. Same amount of power just bigger wire, right?
