Default Wipers

The other night I turned my wipers on to clear the fog on my windshield and they went a little berserk. I could hear the relay cycling rapidly and my wipers sort of stopped and started across their arc. When I switched them off, they just stayed wherever they were between the 12 and 3 o'clock position instead of returning to their rested position. The intermittent function no longer works, they are either ON or OFF with no in between.

Looking for opinions on whether this is a multi-switch issue or a relay issue before I start replacing parts.

Grrr. For anyone else looking for the wiper control module in an '89 XJ, it's not behind the driver's side kick panel, it's Velcro'd to the back side of the driver's knee bolster panel. Also, the box is riveted closed, not clipped.

Thanks for the link, PBW. Any link that gives me an excuse to bust out the Dremel and soldering iron is a good link.

Thought I'd update this (and thank PWB again for the link). I pulled the box and drilled out the rivets. Sure enough, there was a burnt copper trace. I soldered in a thread of copper to bridge the gap and my wipers work again.

Y'all rock! Now, if it would just rain :/
