Windshield seal??

Windshield seal??
There is a chrome strip that goes around the perimeter of my '92 cherokee's windshield. I have seen it on many early model cherokees but not all of them. I was wondering if this is part of the windshield seal?? I like the look without it but don't wanna damage the XJ

I'm pretty sure that's the piece that people take out and replace with some rubber seal. It should seal it better too. I'm not a fan of the chrome look and would definitely take it out.
