At some point in time, I will remove my old cracked up windshield and replace the sheet metal above that is rusting through and soaking the headliner. I have it gooped up right now to prevent the leaking.
I can pick up a windshield for a little over $100 and wonder if anyone has replaced their own and what it would require?

Yea, I've done it a couple times. Removing one without breaking it is the hard part, (don't try it), installing one is pretty easy. On the first one I paid a glass shop over $20 for one tube of "volcinized rubber" or whatever it's called. For the second I found it allot cheaper.
I just got it all nice and clean, laid a nice bead and stuck it on there. To keep it from sliding down I used some shims at the bottom. Idk if it was necessary, but I looped a nylon cord clear around through the cab with a "truckers hitch", (a loop on one end I could pull against to get good and tight), then took two empty plastic milk jugs and put them under the cord so they applied pressure inward, overnight, while it set-up.
A mistake to avoid. When I bought one windshield we were in a barn in the shade. When I got all done and cleaned it good I saw that I had bought a badly pitted windshield. Next time I will clean it well and check it out in good sun before I buy!

I plan on buying new. I can get a new one for about $104 and pick it up locally.
I don't plan on trying to save the current one since it looks like a spiderweb already with cracks half way across from the passenger side. It got a chip on one side and one day when it got cold overnight, it cracked and just got worse over the years.

You are already over half in to a new windshield installed might as well just have it done and get it over with + they come to you.

Absolutely. For what the shops charge, it's not worth the hassle to DIY.
