I had the same Q & found that it is super hard to get the old windshield out without breaking it (nice to know if you want one from a JY).

Really cheap to get one put in professionally, so I hear. I've yet to make any calls to a glass shop.

I have tried cutting one out a few times out of 5 only one i didn't break its harder then it looks.I would spend the money and pay a pro to do it.If you have full coverage on your jeep glass should be covered on your insurance.

I had mine replaced by Safelite. It was only around $200.

Get a buddy. You hold a piece of wire on the inside of your Jeep, while your buddy holds the other end on the outside of the cabin. The wire has to be thin enough to cut the rubber but strong enough to not break (think Piano wire). Take your time. It helps to go ahead of the wire with a heatgun to get the rubber seal hot.

Scrape off the old stuff with a blade and heatgun, pick up some silicone sealant, and glue it in place. Use tape to hold and align it in place.

get a rope about 4 foot long, you want a 1/4 inch cotton rope. soak it in soapy water(really soapy!) feed it through from either the outside or inside. you need someone to hold one end and you hold the other work it around the seal....done!

It really not to hard if you have someone to give you a hand. But if you don't call around a few glass shops. Here in South Texas there are a lot of auto glass shops and they charge around $150 for a new windshield including installation. I had my son's car windshield replaced a couple of weeks ago and my ex girlfriends done done about a year ago. For me $150 was worth not to have to deal with having a mess on my hands if the glass shattered.

Years ago I helped my friend replace the windshield in my '67 Belvedere. I know that it's not anything I'll ever attempt by myself. For what the glass shops charge to do it, it's just not worth the risk and frustration of doing it myself.

Please don't use silicone.

X2. Windshields are held in by a urethane sealant and adhesive. The "rubber seal" I keep seeing people mention is only on the rear side windows and hatch. I've done one by myself.... it was horrible. I will pay a guy to do it with the correct stuff.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!!!!

Number one even thin wire can chip the edges of the glass which leads to cracks.

Number two silicone sealant is not strong enough or even legal to use in glass replacement. ONLY USE AN APPROVED URETHANE SEALANT that is made for glass.

I've replaced hundreds of windshields and trust me cutting out a used one with the proper tools is tough at best. They then need to be cleaned and prep'd properly as well to ensure the seal right and stay in place. I had Safelite quote mine about a month ago and they cam in at $188.00. Pay a pro to do it cause in a worst case scenario the glass is the last thing that will keep you in your jeep when the poop hit's the fan. Silicone will put your *** on the road!

Not to kill the subject, but I would have to agree with having it done professionally. I am a big, "Do It Yourselfer" and did try to get a windshield from a junk yard. My dad and I went through at least 3 windshields. One of which we almost had, but ended up cracking at the end. One thing I noticed is alot of the windshields in the junk yard have small chips in them. Long story short, $300 is one of those jobs where its worth having done. It will save you time and frustration.
