I have a 1998 Cherokee that has rust damage around the windshield frame, and cannot find a body-shop that will repair this kind of problem, they only want insurance work. This appears to be a common area where rust develops on Cherokees. problem. Has anyone out there repaired same problem?

 

Yes, I have repaired mine. What is required is determined by how bad it it. Mine was minor, had some bubbling of paint in the lower corner on one side near the bright trip piece. Removed the glass, removed the rust fully, had some pin hole rust thru spots that opened up, and a good deal of pitting. treated with a metal etch after all the rust was painstakingly removed. then epoxy DPLF primer, then filled pits with JB weld epoxy, then epoxy primer again, then top coat. also was able to clean and paint backside, which is important too prevent reoccurance

How bad is yours? Photos?

Badder cases will require welding in new sections, either cut out from other Jeep or hand formed from steel sheet.

A restoration shop may be able to do this job.

But beware that some shop dont simply slather on Bondo over the rust, sand and paint, as that will assure the rust returns even worse in the near future.
