Default Rusty Cowl Below Corner Windshield

Does the corner piece of the cowl at the base of the windshield unscrew somehow? I am going to repaint a '92 Jeep Cherokee and there is rust along the bottom of the windshield there. I was hoping to unscrew the rusted metal piece to repair and replace it, but maybe I am wrong and it is welded to the body. How is it affixed? How does one repair that spot? Thank you.

It's welded to the firewall. Sucks for other repairs also.

You need to pull that windshield out and fix that rust. There is no way to fix it properly with the glass in place.

Be prepared for it to be worse than it looks.

Thank you both for quick responses! Out comes the windshield then.

It's not a bad job. Definitely DIY friendly. Search on my username and "windshield" and you should get some pointers.
