Angry Window trim/Molding question

My 89 Cherokee sounds like a vacume cleaner squalling when I'm over 45 mph. The window (front&rear) trim/molding is shot. How hard is this to replace?
Wondering if this is something I should attempt or take it to a body shop.

I want a good job......& if I messed it up then had to take it somewhere I'd be a mad *^&%#@*&)er.

Buy 97+ molding too. It's thicker and does a much better job sealing the doors up.

Nope, doors seal the same. The only difference is the exterior body lines. You can run 97+ doors on older XJs.

My window trim has been failing for a while. IMO, it costs too much to buy the kit of stuff. I have been searching for manual 97+ doors to swap in. Either way, I do recommend the 97+ front door seals.

The door seals are the same, the window seals aren't, for obvious reasons. Pre-97s have the vent window (functioning or not) so the flocked window swipes are different sizes.

I believe Team Cherokee is gone, btw. I've not been able to access their page for a couple weeks now.

Ahh, yes! Just tried again and it worked. The site is redesigned, though. I wonder if I had tried while they were in transition or something. Oh well, glad it's back... thanks for the tip PNW.

OP, Team Cherokee has a full weather strip kit for your 4-door XJ which includes new door seals for all doors and hatch and a full flocked window wipe kit for $299.

My doors & rear hatch are fine. It's just the windows. I never dreamed the bar seal separating the vent window from the roll down window would be well over a $100 per.

That's frickin silly

So I do some more digging & I find this site. http://www.perfectfit.com/

They sell a multitude of items & if you scroll down there is a section "weatherstripping".
The most expensive piece of weatherstripping for my Cherokee are the "glass run channels". The cheapest I have found is at TEAMCHEROKEE & just ONE SECTION for 1 window is $104. Don't price them at the dealer. You won't believe it!
This is the piece that runs vertical and fits in the bar that separates the main window from the vent window.
So anyway I click on the link at http://www.perfectfit.com/ & it appears you could buy enough glass run channel for a frickin parking lot of Jeeps for the price of just 2 or 3 single pieces anywhere else.

Somebody take a look & see if I am reading this right or did I bump the you know what outta my head........

On the "perfect fit" website if you scroll & click on "weatherstripping" a sub-cat comes up & then click on "glass run channels". There are several variations there but the 3 I noticed are the beaded, non- beaded & 1 other that is lines with some kind of fiber or fuzz.
I went by the body shop guys place & he glanced at the site & couldn't believe the prices.
Like I said.......1 window piece at TEAMCHEROKEE is $104.

The pricing is kinda confusing to me. It say that a 1+ is cheaper then the 25+ of the same product. I have no idea what these #+'s mean but it seems backwards of what you would normally think, I couldn't find anything explaining it.

I may be wrong but I believe what they are saying is the more strips you purchase, the price per strip drops......

SKU Style1+12+25+Quantity Y-526-60 60", flexible - Each$20.65$17.85$16.75add to cart Y-526-96 96", flexible - Each$33.15$28.65$26.85add to cart Y-614 96", rigid - Each$23.30$20.15$18.90add to cart
for instance.......1 strip up to 11 strips of sku- Y-526-60 is $20.65 per strip. 12 up to 24 strips is $17.85.....& so on. I
I could be wrong but if I'm correct what a savings. I know a guy that just spent over $800 just on door & window weather stripping & what kicked his a$$ was the 4 glass channel runs at over $400.

that's total bs.....
