I understand from the local 4WD shop that the warranty is as good as Warns. Other that that, I don't know much about them.

I had a m-8000 (warn) on my wrangler it was great I paid 5 for it the smitty built is what about 3 I would just feel more comfortable with a warn or milemarker or ramsey they've just been around longer smittys are new to winchs but hell its probable made by one of them anyway LOL I'd try craigslist first. Either good luck and show some pics

I have had my Smittybuilt XRC8000 for about a year, now. The winch is great. It has gotten me out of everything from door handle deep snow...no laughing Brandon....to being high centered on rocks. However, I have snapped one cable and broken two of their roller fare leads. I speak from personal experience when I say it's the best deal on a winch going. Why spend 900 for an 8K winch instead of 300 for an 8K winch. Just because it says Warn on it. I don't think so.

I bought a MileMarker 9000# winch. I thought "Hey, they make stuff for the military ..." Well I used it a few times for other people and then when I used it for me, it quit. No drama or smoke or anything, just quit on an easy pull. Fortunately I could move enough to take the tension of the line so I could unhook it. Or else I would still be there.

thanks for the input. next question. the xrc 8 is around 300 but the 10 is only 100 more. is that kinda overkill on a xj? im really not doing crazy rock crawling. and i really only wheel with other jeeps.

i would get the 10k like buck said he snapped a line and a few fairleads, so with that in mind i would get the 10k to help avoid the breaking sicne its rated for 10k it should take the abuse a bit better

Agreed, go with the 10k. Can take more wear and tear, maybe you'll get stuck badly enough that an 8k woudn't handle, dunno?
