oK. ive been looking at picking up an overhead console to put in my '87 XJ. ive looked around and already know that ill have to mod one from an XJ a little bit to get it to work in my '87. however im having a hard time finding XJ overhead consoles. i recently found one out of a ZJ and it looks to be very similar to one from an XJ. so my question is does anyone know if they are they same? can one out of a ZJ be modded to fit an XJ fairly easily? im not even too worried about the compass and temp gauge working to much. i mainly just want a place to store some of my crap up and out of the way. i figure the dome lights will be easy enough to re-wire. i just want to know if it will mount up fairly clean so it doesnt look like crap. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

 

they will work they require wiring changes there is a thread on here with a link to NAXJA the has alll the info.

 

but as far as fitting correctly they will work without having any gaps or anything like that?

 

I was at the jy and saw one. I have a 99 classic and the consoles are the same. I just pulled the lil sunglass door from a rolled 97 grand for mine. Being that the lil door fit and they look identical, one would think it should fit. As for wiring, the dopelights look the same, but the grand has the lil black dome sensor( for remote locks). they mount different in the front, xj replaces the visor hatch, the zy uses a scre win the middle
