Will not crank every once in awhile??
The battery & connections ARE NOT THE ISSUE!! I believe that it has something to do with the nuetral, brake safety mechanism getting hung up. Anybody ever remove all this crap? I know when to shift and start my rig and what not. Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks a lot.

It will turn over but not start or it won't even turn over. Just not sure what you mean. You threw me off by stateing that your battery and connections were not at fault. If it won't turn over could you have a dead spot on your starter? Plz clear this up. Headlight come on but engine won't turn over? That what you are saying here?

I mean that it is a problem that comes and goes. It does not crank when it happens! When it happened this morning I wanted to post it to see if anyone had the same issues. This morning out of anger, and to see if it would work, I pounded on the top of the column twice and it started right up. This happened after the thread got started on CF this morning so I have not had a chance to post since then. Since that seemed to make it work, I'm leaning towards the switch itself. It was not cranking at all, then after I pounded on the top of the column at the base of the dash, IT WORKED!! Wierd **** huh!!

It's pretty simple to clean the NSS...once you get it out that is. That part is the PITA.

I agree with BlueXJ, you could have a dead spot in the starter, or an intermittent problem with the solenoid. Can you hear the solenoid click when it does this? I have an 87 dodge that will do that occasionally, the solenoid clicks and clicks but the starter won't engage.

im going with the starter as well. mine did the same thing for about six months and i replaced it with a spare i had and it hasnt done it since and it has been about 4 or 5 months now. then again cleaning the NSS couldnt hurt does your reverse lights work if they dont or only work sometimes that a hint that the NSS could use a cleaning
