Default wierd voltage readings

Hi all today I got in my cherokee sport 98 and the voltage dropped to 9 v and the check gauges came on. The jeep was still running fine however no signs of dead battery. I pulled over at gas station and shut it off. When I turned the key back on it read 12 v. I went down the road and it did it again drove to work though with no issues. Any clue whats goin on? Thanks

The first thing you may want to do is check you battery cables and clean the terminals. Also, You want to clean all the grounding points. Other the the battery cables you have a second ground fro the battery to the fender, One on the dipstick and one from the fire wall to the rear drivers side of the head. I just redid my 98 yesterday and it made a big difference. Also check your connections on the starter and alternator. If after that the problem continues you have to start looking into having your alternator checked out.

Agreed ^, also on my 90, the alternator, (And voltage), it the first thing to mess up if my belt is a little loose. I guess allot of places will check the alt free Btw.
