Default wierd hose under 87 cherokee

I have a strange bracket attached under the head of the starter bolt. This bracket has two metal short "nipples" attached. On one of those nipples is a long hose dragging loose under the Jeep. Any ideas?

Default on a standard?

Would a manual transmission have a breather tube?

im not 100% sure, but i think so .i dont think that tube is supposed to bolt on the starter bolt tho, i think its supposed to bolt on higher, on one of the bolts on the trans bellhousing

Default that makes sense

Previous owner had clutch replaced before I bought it. Mechanic probably caught it too late and just bolted it there.

Yes it would have a breather tube. But IIRC the breather tube would have been bolted to the bellhousing fairly high up on it.

Manual trannys have breathers both differentials have breathers and that is all I can think of unless it is the vacuum line to a disco on the passenger side of the front axle.
