Default wierd clicking noise on startup, gone in 30 sec

my 99 cherokee has a wierd noise when it starts up, but it only last for about 20-30 seconds and then its gone..

i almost sounds like a exhaust leak, or a sticky lifter...something like that

but then it just goes away...

so a exhaust leak would stay there...warm or not

which makes me thing its a rocker or something is dry...until oil gets it lubricated

any ideas?

I have a similar issue with my '01 that I am pretty sure is the flex plate, but I'm curious where you're going with this. Please elaborate.

could it be the gasket or do you think the manifold has a crack in it?

It isn't the purge valve mounted to the firewall, is it? They can click pretty good when they are active.

If you think it's the manifold, mix up some dish soap and water, wait for the manifold to cool, soak it with the soapy water and watch while someone starts the motor.
You'll see bubbles at the source of the leak.
