Default why wont my jeep start?

OK so I have some sort of electrical problem, occasionally after I shut off the Jeep it wont crank back up. The motor will turn over but its like its not getting gas. This rarely happens but seems to always happen when I'm in a jam. Sometimes after I pull my trailer it will do the same thing but it actually starts up but seems like it chokes out and isn't getting any fuel and lurches forward a few feet at a time. Any ideas folks? Granted this rarely happens so I don't think its the fuel pump I'm pretty sure its a short somewhere but I have no idea where. And my power windows short out every once in a while but I can turn the key back and they work again

To get it started again I just let it sit for a min and it starts back up again

One of the first things to check is your Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) with these stalling/starting issues. Search the threads, its a common thing which can account for these symptoms.
The CPS WILL fail at some point during its life in the 4.0 especially, and this might be your moment to change it. Replace with a quality one.
The power windows are not related to the CPS; it might be a separate issue, or you have a more general electrical issue. Things like refreshing grounds etc come into play then, so the approach is different.

There are quite some threads on these symptoms, even some recent ones, so have a little search and you will encounter some good things-to-address. Let us know how you go.

Thank you I just got the cf app on my phone and it was faster to post a new thread than to search through all of them on this little screen

I just fixed my stalling / no start issue. The vehicle would do two things. It would start and then immediately die, or it would start and idle perfectly but as soon as any throttle was given, it would sputter and die and misfire too.

It ended up being two problems sending me in circles.

First the cam shaft sensor shaft was not only out of sync, but was 180 degrees from the position on the inside at top dead center. To correct we used a toothpick to line up the outside and inside and placed it relatively close to where it should be. It fired right up and stopped the sputtering and dying with throttle. Second the wire harness for the ignition coil pack was chafed and the pins were bowed out and would lose connection at idle due to the vibration of the engine at low rpms. The fix was simple.. pliers and electrical tape. To diagnose these issues took a week of swapping out sensors and expensive replacement parts. Look at your wiring harness and connections first, then check the alignment for your cam sensor / distributor.

I had tried to replace the CPS, Cam sensor, Coil pack and MAF sensor and even swapped out the computer since a DRB III tool couldn't find anything wrong. The vacuum was sitting at 9 inches instead of around 15-17. Every chrysler tech site that we looked at said to check the timing chain to see if it skipped a tooth, well there is a new timing chain on the jeep now and it wasn't the cause.

I was able to return about $240 worth of the sensors and parts.

The sensor is probably shorting out, sometimes it's getting enough volts, sometimes it's not (ie intermittent start)

I'm having the same problem now. Picking up a new cps sensor tomorrow from a jeep dealer, I tried one from autozone and it was broke out of the box.

Flaky ignition switches cause all sorts of grief. If turning the key off then back on fixes the problems, I'd take a good look at the switch itself.

$62 flat from the dealer, compared to $28 from autozone. BUT the autozone sensor didn't work and was very flimsy.

I'm installing in a few hours and I'll let you know if this fixes it (fingers crossed!)

Its not so much as turning the key back as giving it some time. The motor itself trust to turn over but it seems to not catch fire

This may sound odd. But try Putting in new fuel filters. They may be a little gunked up And every once in awhile they gunk up enough to not let it start. It's work a short. That's what Happened to mine a while back when my dad was driving it.
