Default Why are my pulleys as shiny as a mirror

My water pump, electric fan and tension pulleys look like they've been buffed and polished to a mirror shine. The back of the belt goes around these pulleys so I assume the belt is slipping on them? Anybody got an answer for this?

Because they have a rubber belt running on them, shinny is normal. If they squeek they might be too loose or too tight.

mine are pretty clean.. idk about shinny, but def. very clean... you should check the belt for stress signs like cracks, rips, etc. i know someone already mentioned a too loose/tight belt...

Its not a XJ thing it's physics, Shinny pulleys are normal for ANY belt driven application, even if a cog belt. They amount of brightness, to the shinny, varies buy pulley material. Moving object ALWAYS create friction.

LOl. I know it's not an XJ thing, I just can't believe I've had 3 XJ's, 1 TJ, 2 CJ's and 2 YJ's and never noticed.

Yep exactly the friction created by the belt moving "buffs" the pulleys in a way. This is 100% normal
