So, here recently my '91 XJ has been getting loud during higher rpm acceleration. When I first start her up its fine, no noise other than the normal. Then, when the temp is 210 and the engine is warm, during the accel period from about 2,500 - up RPM its louder. No performance loss, still runs like a champ and shifts well, all that goodness. But its loud, kinda like a car runnin with just headers. Im thinking a header crack (i figure Im do for one considering everyone says it happens sooner or later, and having 200k miles i guess its my time). Is this my most likely prob? Whats the best way to check?

Most likey it has cracked at the collector on the Header, I took mine and welded some straps over the weak areas and it works great, if you go to a Muffler shop most likey it will cost about $20.00 to get it welded.

 

Thank you. The collector is the bit where all tubes combine right? So just climb under the old girl and look for a crack along the header?
