Default Why its so hard to find parts for a Cherokee?

I just don't understand, why I cam walk into a Mazda dealer and they has most of the parts for my 20 year old Miata but I called 10 dealers and can't find a damn little part for my 90 xj.

I need the pcv system I can just get by with a little 90 degree elbow toake my own tube that goes to the airbox but the elbow is missing. Can someone help me please.

I got oil spilling all over the engine bay.
I called a 5 dealers and found one about 2 hours away from me and the guy told me he will sell me the little elbow for $140! hundred and forty! WTF? This is a Jeep, made in US and there are no parts?

Do you mean the elbow that goes in the valve cover? Rockauto.com has that for like $3 if I remember right.

You're kidding, right? Have you tried searching online? Would have taken less time than starting this thread!
This is the very first link I click on for Jeep Cherokee PCV valve. <<< Click there
Google is your friend - might take a few days to get to you, but "direct OE replacement" sounds like a winner. Quit whining & SEARCH!

It is hard to find CCV system replacement parts for cherokees, in parts stores at least. I have 6 local auto parts stores and none of them had what i needed. X2 on the internet being your friend

The Cherokee does not have a PCV valve, just an oriface in the 90 degree elbow.

How many people really want Miatas?

Maybe its cuz no one in their right mind would drive a Miata so all the replacement parts just sit on the shelves collecting dust.

All the Jeep parts are gone cuz, well, we all know Jeeps are better than most everything else.

[sorry, OP, no offense meant, but I had to take this one.]

Nice try guys, but I just went through this same problem and that google search link did not show the correct CCV elbow and I could not find it on Rockauto or any other site. I could not even find it at any of my local auto parts stores or in any of their catalogs.

People with Cherokees 1990+ do not understand that even using the internet it is not easy to find the CCV elbow for a 1987-1989 Cherokee. When I went to my local parts store that has never let me down before we tried to look it up, but all of the parts catalogs only list PCV (or CCV) elbows for cherokees 1990+. So I took my old cracked elbow into the store and started comparing it to PCV elbows they had there for other vehicles. I was finally able to find one that was the right size. It fit good and tight, I just had to source a different hose to attach it to the airbox. Of course it still was leaking a little oil from around it so I did some research on the CCV system in 87-89 cherokees and discovered that the vacum line from the back of the valve cover was the problem. Although I had run carb cleaner and a wire through it to clear it, it was still restricting the flow a bit and was not pulling enough vacum. I scrapped that plastic tube, but cut off the fitting from it that goes into the valve cover gasket and replaced the plastic tube with 1/4" ID heater hose. Now it gets much better vacum and I have no more oil leaking from the CCV elbow on my valve cover. Hope this helps. (I will try to find the part number for the elbow I used and post it up later).

Thank you very much, you know how I feel. Called like 5 dealers, called mopar and chrysler customer service and nothing. I have oil pretty much gushing out of my valve cover! I have to take a trip with the car soon and it will be rouch one.

The funny thing is that 91+ are available everywhere but not for earlier ones.

I will have to get one from a junk yard I guess.

About the Miata.

If you have never driven a 2500lbs Miata with a turbo 200+hp engine you really have nothing to say. I can give you a ride and you will know what I mean.

Parts like that could be found at a junkyard can't they? I shop there quite a bit for my 85...

I know.

I had to give you some crap, though, as its one of the top 3 car choices among homosexuals. Right up there with the Mustang V6's and VW bugs.

The Miatas, with the right person behind the wheel, can keep up with a Honduh S2000. They are great for the twisties, but they aren't quick by any means. Not acceleration-wise.

Either way, I'll stick to my 1g (1993) Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. Turbo. All wheel drive. It'll run circles around that Mazda, esp once I'm done tuning it.
