Why the hell is my gas milage so bad?

Filters clean plugs good wires are ok too

Ive read on this forum that someone once had bad cat. Changed the cat out and got a certain type o2 sensor (I think NGK) and their MPG's went back up. Just an idea.

Pulled the plugs they're clean and looked at the wires the writing still on them they're not dry rotted or too baked I might still get a new set

I would say, esp since we've got 2 confirmed real world situations, that your disagreement and posted info may be untrue in this situation.

The OP also states later that the downstream wires aren't even there. Given that, we can safely assume there are bigger issues as well.
The OP's XJ is OBD II.

Fuel economy aside; I, for one, won't advocate deletion or altering the downstream O2S because of Federal OBD II emissions requirements.

No one said a thing about deletion.

Bypassing parts to diagnose problems isn't deleting. Its diagnosing.
