Default Why Doesn’t 91’ Factory Radio Work Well?

Not asking for a fix here. Just wonder if anyone can explain why the factory radio in a 91’ XJ doesn’t pick-up FM stations well? Have there just been advances in technology for newer radios vs deficiencies in older radios? Again, not looking for a fix. Just wondering about the technical details just out of general interest.

for it being a 91 it could be several things, bad ground or the braided ground coming from the back of the engine connected to the firewall causing a lot of interference if thats not connected properly or has dirt built up.
i wouldnt suspect the radio it self rather the connections or a damaged coax cable

So maybe I am looking for a fix? I just kind of guessed that manufactures have improved the quality of the electronics. Ha.

Thank you! Will check the link.

if you were thinking of buying a newer radio it would be good to check those grounds while your installing it. the braided ground strap is to eliminate engine noises and interferences.
