Default Whose got experience with F150 springs?

I'm working on building myself a 4" lift cheap. The way I see it, my options are f150 or Grand cherokee springs with spacers to get the added elevation. Can anyone describe for me what the ride characteristics are like (It would be SWEET if sometone had experience with both). I'm a bit conflicted becuase money is tight and I can get a set of F150 springs for about $20 out of a Junk Yard, but the Grand Cherokee Springs are either new at $100 or $60 for a pair with 240k miles on them and the parts yard can't tell me if they're out of the 6 or v8.

This Jeep is my DD and although I didn't buy the XJ for the reputation of a glassy-smooth ride, I don't want to give myself hemorrhoids either. Please let me know what I can expect. the F150s are definitely within my price range. Also, what year range of Grand Cherokee can I pull springs off of?

Thanks again,
s

I tried the f150 springs, not worth it for me. The ride was extremely stiff considering they were actually shorter than the stock XJ springs. If you care about flex at all just get coil springs the size you need and budget the rest of your lift.

Where do I get springs the size I need? Are you talking about aftermarket springs for lift specifically for the XJ (e.g., RE, RC, Skyjacker, etc.)?

Yeah aftermarket, you might even be able to get some cheap used. Just practice patience with a lift, cause it will never be perfect especially on a budget.

The first lift I installed on my 91 used F150 springs. Uncompressed they were the same length as the stock XJ springs, just had a thicker coil and heavier spring rating. Ended up with 4.5 inches in the front with them but they do have a much stiffer ride.
