Exclamation White smoke??

I have a 94 sport 4.0 and ive noticed that a few mins after start up,i have puffs of white smoke from the exhaust. Im suspecting moisture. i have no oil in coolant vice versa. Also no bubbles in the coolant tank. So this means no head gasket problem, right? The jeep does heat up to 210 in about 5 mins but no farther. What could be the cause of white smoke?

Trans fluid also smokes white. Back in the day when shifting was left up to vacuum modulators -when they went bad they would pull trans fluid directly into the intake and look like james Bond cars trying to get away.

Is there a blueish tint to the white smoke? If so burning oil. Do you have to top off the oil once and awhile?

Ok. How's the coolant level? The oil may not be in the coolant or vice versa. But coolant could be leaking somewhere and burning off. Or you could just be burning off carbon build up. Something could have knocked some carbon loose.

Does it go away? How long does it smoke? And is it a whole lot or not really? Thick? Maybe a little more info can point someone in the right direction.

HI fellow YELLOW XJ'r. I have the same prob to. in my case it is just condisation in the exhaust. after beeting the snot out of it it goes away. when i drive it normally i see it every once in a while. i see it more when it is more humid out than on a dry sunny day with no humidty. it can also be due to an exhaust leak ever so small allowing moisture to get in when when the exhaust cools then when you start it up and the exhaust heats up that will turn into small ammounts of white smoke. i think its nothing to worry about. just keep an eye on your water and oil and you will be fine.

For every gallon of gasoline you burn you also "burn" a gallon of water.

You're just seeing steam after the exhaust warms up to at least 212 degrees F.

It's normal.

I would put money on moisture in the exhaust, no big deal every car here in MN does it in the cooler weather. If its clouds of smoke then you have something to worry about.

I've seen a couple 4.7s start puffing white at startup close to a year before a head gasket blows.

That's what me geo metro did. Probably smoked a little for two months. Getting worse and worse. Then it started smoking a bunch after start up and even when driving. Then I knew something was wrong.
