Default White ball and spring out of ac controls!!

98 cherokee, was pulling the dash to do a heater core and when i was taking off the control panel for the ac a little white ball and spring fell out and i dont have a clue how it goes back in!!!! any help would greatly be appreciated!!!!

I've never had my HVAC dials apart, but I'm assuming the ball rides up against the dial shaft, and the spring keeps pressure on it. That's how you get the detent feel when you turn the dial.

im thinking it goes in the hole next to the center hole! This is the hot and cold switch!!! Ball first then the spring!!?
