Hello Jeepers!

I have had this problem for a while now, and I think the noise is getting worse.

I have a 96 5 speed manual. I keep hearing this strange whirling/squealing noise from where my gear shifter is located. At first I thought it was low transmission fluid. So I went to a shop and changed the transmission fluid.

But the noise did not go away - which leads me to believe that there is some mechanical problem.

1. Noise is not constant. It comes on and off. But mostly when I am in 2nd or 3rd gear.

2. It seems like noise occurs more frequently when car is still cold. When I am on high way going 70 mph, I don't hear it.

3. I don't have problem with shifting gear. It shifts like it always has.


Any ideas on what could be going on? :/
