Default Where does the negative terminal go to off of the battery?

Hello, all

I recently took out my old alternator as I the diodes within where shot and am looking to install the new one. While I was disassembling the old one, I must have disconnected the negative terminal that goes to the batter off of the Alternator and I don't know where I need to reconnect it. Is there somewhere on the block or frame I should ground the negative end to, or, do I connect it back somewhere on the alternator again? (I don't think it goes, but I'm still so new to this, I just wanted to be safe)

The black wire does not go to the battery. It goes to the Power Distribution Center, passenger side lug. A positive from the battery goes to the inboard PDC lug. The lugs are connected to each other with a fusible link (in 1996, not sure what other years).

The negative wires from the battery go to 1) the block (larger wire) and 2) the inner fender (smaller gauge wire).

Not sure where exactly the alternator grounds to, but it is not directly to the battery.

All the alternators I've seen do not have graound wires on them they self ground by beening bolted to the engine . You can add one I gess it mite help .

96 was a weird year, but I'm pretty sure it does not have a fusible link connecting the B+ and the B-. That would go up in smoke instantly.

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about?

Yep. I have a truck that doesn't do that, but it's pretty rare. Unless there is a specific reason for the alternator body to be isolated from ground, that's the normal method.

Never said B+ and B- go to PDC. I said Red from battery goes to PDC and black from alternator goes to PDC.

Left side of this pic is the black to a 90 to the stud (from alternator), right side is a 90 that dives down to red direct to battery, squiggly black in the middle is fusible link.

There are two wires coming off of the negative on this battery. One goes to the inner fender. The other goes to the block. Neither go to the alternator.

I was answering this:
I must have disconnected the negative terminal that goes to the batter off of the Alternator and I don't know where I need to reconnect it.
And the subject line.
